GREATER MANCHESTER COLLABORATIVE PROCUREMENT HUB PLACES MILLION POUND CONTRACT FOR PURCHASE OF PHILIPS DEFIBRILLATORS

Greater Manchester Collaborative Procurement Hub recently placed an order with Philips distributors in the UK, Cardiac Services, for the purchase of a million pounds worth of monitor/defibrillators ,Philips’ HeartStart MRx and HeartStart FR2+.     The Contract, which is initially for one million, will run for three years, with a possible extension to four years.

The Greater Manchester Collaborative Procurement Hub (CPH) is entirely owned and funded by Manchester’s twenty-eight NHS organisations and was formed to gain a better deal for everyone, by ensuring an aggregation of spend and taking advantage of economies of scale.

Philips is a world leader in innovative defibrillation technology and offers the most complete defibrillator solution to help caregivers treat sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) quickly and effectively wherever it occurs.

The HeartStart MRx is a reliable and easy-to-use monitor/defibrillator designed with a broad range of features and capability to meet the technical demands of Advanced Cardiac Life Support-trained caregivers in the emergency medical services and hospital environments.   It combines industry-leading monitoring technology with diagnostic measurements and Philips’ patented resuscitation therapies in a single lightweight device.

The HeartStart FR2+ is portable, lightweight and requires minimal training.   It automatically determines whether a shock is required with the same accuracy as a trained observer of heart rhythms.   It has become a trusted tool of both first responders and designated response teams.  With clean, uncluttered design, it is optimised for fast efficiency operation and rapid delivery of life-saving therapy.   Commands are clear, streamlined, confident and concise.

Mark Peacock, UK Sales Manager, Cardiac Services, UK, says, “One of the factors influencing the sale was the new technology - for instance Quick shock and Smart CPR on the FR2 AED.   Until recently, the use of defibrillators required considerable training and skill, but HeartStart FR2+ has meant that the defibrillation can be carried out by trained Basic Life Support teams.  Training a new tier of staff can help to broaden the support net, as nurses and other personnel, often the first to respond to a patient in distress, will find HeartStart FR2+ simple and easy to use.”

In December, University Hospital Wales placed an order with Cardiac Services, worth £250K also for HeartStart FR2+ and HeartStart MRx monitor/defibrillators.      One of the factors again in the choice of Philips equipment was the new technology, particularly Q-CPR measurement and feedback.   This one-of-a-kind tool, powered by Laerdal’s Q-CPRTM technology, offers objective measurement and corrective feedback on compression depth and rate, as well as ventilation volume and rate.   Q-CPR reinforces CPR training with each and every use.

Cardiac Services is one of Philips’ main distributors for defibrillators and enjoys a closing working relationship with Philips in the sale and marketing of the product.
