Infinion 1.5T Comprehensive Abdominal Exam with and without contrast
August 04, 2003
Courtesy of: Dept. of Radiology, Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center
- 32 yr female with complaints of abdominal pain
- MR of Abdomen performed with and without contrast to correlate with prior CT scan w/o contrast.
- System: Infinion 1.5T system with VIA 5.0 software
- Coils: Body Flex Synergy coil
Comprehensive Abdominal Exam
|
- Initial scanning included a TSE coronal which shows a left sided paraspinal lesion with heterogeneous T2 hyperintensity.
- This lesion does not seem to derive from the adrenal gland, but does deviate the gland anterolaterally.
|
|
|
- A more anterior slice shows a curious lesion on the peripheral aspect of the liver. This lesion will need to be further characterized during this exam.
|
|
|   |
 | | A dual-echo in/out phase scan is a new feature of VIA 5.0 and shows correlation between this lesion’s tissue composition as seen within the same slice location but opposing phase characteristics. |

THRIVE Dynamic Abdominal scanning
THRIVE stands for T1 High Resolution Isotropic Volume acquisition. 72 slices were acquired with a 2.5 mm thickness in a breath-hold of 21 seconds. This T1-TFE volume has SPIR applied to the sequence to enable saturation of fat signal. Auto-voice provides breathold instructions to patient at the specified dynamic scan time. The above scans were acquired pre-contrast, immediately after injection of gadolinium, 1 minute post-gad, and 6 minutes post-gad. The features of this scanning technique allowed for diagnosis of the paraspinal lesion(1), two simple cysts within the superior medial segment of the left lobe of the liver(2), and an adjacent lobulated lesion that possessed an enhancement pattern that could not be characterized as a cyst or hemangioma(3) (arrows indicate positions in image above).
|
- A multi-planar reformat of these lesions demonstrates their proximity to each other and the importance of this 3D scan to the ultimate diagnosis.

Comprehensive Abdominal exam
|
- A high resolution T2 TSE with SPIR provides a clear anatomical reference to the pathology within this MR study.
- This exam was performed during the first phase of VIA 5.0 Beta testing at Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center in Findlay, Ohio.
